Spring into a healthy mind and body!

April is the onset of Spring which leads us after a long winter to feeling a sense of rebirth, rejeuvenation, blossoming, these words are important and can all be connected to Physical Education!

Physical education is important because it provides students with a knowledge of how to maintain and live a healthy lifestyle.

MORE REASONS TO LEAD AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE.....

Dr, Germund Hesslow an internationally renowned cerebullum researcher has been quoted as saying when asked,"what role does physical activity play in the development of learning?" Dr. Hesslow said that all things being equal, a physically active child will have an ADVANTAGE in learning and that an inactive child is at a DISADVANTAGE for learning. Quality physical education provides needed physical activity in the school day and that gives students an advantage for learning, and therefore, may help increase student achievement.

In Honor Of Poetry Month at Quitman School( month ofApril) I have found a poem by Gary Komich: Thoughts in Verse

Lessons learned in pe class

Are values that through life will last

Dress to play, and know the rules

Mind your manners. keep your cool.

Good behavior earns the right

To share the fun. try as you might

You'll never win by cheating here.

The winners come from far and near.

They make good friends and get along.

They put things back where they belong.

There's warming up, and stretching out,

And scoring less without a pout.

Always, all ways, know the score.

And, when you do, then practice MORE.

Start a game by shaking hands.

Play the very best you can.

Obey the rules and share the ball.

Show respect to one and all.

End a game by shaking hands.

Sportsmanship in life demands

You never gloat. You always care

How others feel when you are there.

I hope you enjoyed the P.E Poem!

For added enjoyment I have found a few quotes that are also INSPIRING!

"Sports do not develop character, they reveal it"- John Wooden

"The real wealth is health"- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and still trying when you know you may lose."- Anonymous

"In the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."- Abraham Lincoln

"The only one that can really motivate you is YOU."- Shaquille O'Neal

"Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way."- Booker T. Washington

Smashing new all around seasonal sport....

Entering cycle 2 we will be learning a new sport, Volleyball. This is a great sport as well as an enjoyable recreational activity to include with family and friends. You can enjoy this game all year round.....nothing like playing a game of Volleyball on a beach in the sand with the sound of the ocean. Another fantastic addition about this game is that you can play it with just 2 people as well as with a large group. There are just a few skills that must be conquered at the beginning level. The under hand serve is the easiest skill to master and eventually for a more powerful serve you can build your skill set to an over hand serve. The bump and set are key terms to understand in order to have simple strategys for games. Each week tune in to key points that will enable you to master and enjoy "volleying" for a fun sport!

The Power of Fitness

Welcome to Quitman’s Physical Education Department!

Hi, my name is Ms. Simonovich. I have been in the Newark District for 5 years but have been involved in the education of fitness over all for over 20 years. I have a passion for this field of teaching and truly believe that how a person feels about themselves physically very much ties in with their internal mental state. Having a strong self- esteem projects in all our endeavors in life. How we perform in school, and socialize with others is all part of physical education. One of the key components to success in physical education is discipline…as you can see this factor ties into all areas of our life. A child who is disciplined will succeed to accomplish their goals not only in sports, but in school, with their friends, and family. If, I can accomplish one task in my job as an educator, it is to instill a sense of pride and make students feel good about themselves, both inside and out!
